Male chicks grow up to be roosters, while the females become hens. Chickens live in a group called a flock, and the chickens in that flock will establish a “pecking order” of dominance among themselves. This is how the chickens determine who’s “in charge” in their flock. Many people believe that chickens are flightless birds, but that’s not entirely true. Chickens can actually fly short distances. Goats have four-chambered stomachs, and both male and female goats have beards. Most of them have two horns on their head, which are made of bone and proteins like keratin. They typically live to be around 15 to 18 years old. Goats are very good at climbing, and they also produce milk. Goat milk can be made into butter, cheese, and more. A baby goat is called a kid. Alpacas need to be sheared once a year, usually in the Spring, and their wool can be used to make clothing, blankets, and more. They have 3-chambered stomachs and sometimes spit when nervous or to assert dominance. Recently, Alpacas have been growing in popularity as therapy animals. Cow milk can be used to make all sorts of things- butter, yogurt, ice cream, cheese, and so much more. A cow’s stomach has 4 compartments. They are social animals. A male “cow” is called a bull.
